Nik Erik Neubauer (1994) is a visual artist and photographer from Ljubljana. His work explores intimate social themes through a contemporary documentary approach.

He graduated in photography from VIST – Faculty of Applied Sciences in 2017 and obtained his Master’s degree from the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in 2021. That same year, he was nominated for the Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award, and GUP Magazine listed him among the most promising European photographers. In 2021, he also received the Watchdog Award from the Slovenian Association of Journalists for his long-term coverage of anti-government protests in Slovenia.

His debut photobook You Always Cry Twice When You Go to the South (2021) was awarded at the Belfast Photo Festival in the photobook category. His second photobook Where’s the Afters?, published by the National Museum of Contemporary History in 2023, was shortlisted for the Rencontres d’Arles Book Awards and has been available at Printed Matter Inc., New York, since 2024. In 2023, he was nominated for the OHO Award, Slovenia’s leading national prize for young visual artists. In 2025, he received second place in the Life category at the Sarajevo Photography Festival.

His recent solo exhibitions include White Smoke, Brown Glare at Cankarjev dom (2025), and Where’s the Afters? at the National Museum of Contemporary History (2023).

Neubauer is also the co-editor of Henrik – Journal of Contemporary Photography and has been a staff photographer for the Slovenian daily newspaper Dnevnik since 2022. He is represented by Galerija Fotografija in Ljubljana.
